Snizzly Snouts is an award winning picture book by Jan Dewitte and Freya Vlerick (Belgium). This inclusive book offers a unique reading experience for all: you can read with your ears, see with your fingers and feel with your eyes! A treasure of playful animal poems symbolizes the wonderful diversity in our society. The senses are engaged through tactile pictures, vivid contrasting colours, clear lettering, braille and audio. Children with and without visual impairment, dyslexia, autism or concentration disorder can share their experiences and discover each other’s way of ‘seeing’. The Braille alphabet has also been included, so that all readers can decode lots of hidden messages. An MP3 audio CD contains the poems and a complete verbal description of the book. It also serves as a true GPS for the fingers, cleverly guiding listeners to explore the pictures. In this way, children learn playfully to broaden their experience of life. ‘Snizzly Snouts’ is a non-commercial project of the Belgian NGO Licht en Liefde – Solidarity in Sight. It has received a ‘White Raven Special Mention’ from the International Youth Library and was selected by IBBY as an ‘Outstanding Book for Young People with Disabilities’. See www.snizzlysnouts.com
